A TERRIFYING satellite map shows Super Typhoon Mangkhut on a collision course with the Philippines and Hong Kong, sparking fears of imminent destruction.
Super Typhoon Mangkhut, Typhoon Ompong for residents of the Philippines, is barreling towards the western Pacific islands with winds of up to 240km per hour.
Thousands of people are being evacuated ahead of the typhoon.
The Joint Typhoon Warning Centre in Hawaii and Hong Kong Observatory categorised the storm as a ‘super typhoon’ with winds up to 240km per hour.
The typhoon could hit Cagayan province on Saturday.
The category 5 monster storm is expected to the most powerful typhoon so far this year scheduled to hit the Philippines.
Around four million people are currently in Mangkhut’s path and thousands of people are being evacuated before its arrival.
Hong Kong was previously on collision course from the barrelling storm but will now avoid a direct hit after Mangkhut changed direction slightly, moving west-northwest.
There are warnings that Mangkhut could wipe $627 million (£478 million) off Hong Kong’s daily GDP figures.
The super typhoon is currently whirling 540km east of Baler Aurora Mangkhut on Luzon.
Typhoon Mangkhut will move through through the South China Sea as a “super typhoon” after smashing through the north Philippine island early on Saturday.
